End of May 2022, the University of Split organised workshop “The problem-solving skills for higher education learners”, bringing together total of 37 students and 5 mentors from the University of Brest, Cadiz, Gdansk, Kiel and Split.
The workshop was organised within the Erasmus+ SEA-EU Doc project and was dedicated to developing doctorate student’s problem solving skills which are on the list of most sought skills in the labor market. Dr. Edgar Jochheim, founder and CEO of JOINCO® Innovation Consulting, introduced students to the TRIZ method, an increasingly popular problem-solving technique and brain technique.
In order for students to be able to apply the TRIZ method in a actual work environment, companies were invited to present different problems of technical-operational nature that they face in everyday business. Participants were presented with several problems from the companies Cromaris, Brodosplit and SailboatRC, and were divided into groups to apply the adopted principles of the TRIZ method. Their solutions were pitched on the last day of the event in front of the watchful eye of company representatives. All pitches were livestreamed via SEA-EU Doc YouTube channel.
By organising that kind of event, students were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the increasingly popular method used by companies around the world and sharpen their problem-solving skills. Additional excellent opportunity for sharing experiences and networking was created by representatives of SailboatRC who organised a study visit for some of the groups working on the problems of their company.
Also, the workshop program was designed to leave enough free time after the end of the daily program to the participants with the aim of informal socialising. That added an extra value for networking, developing new acquaintances and hopefully business relationships and connections that will last.
